To become a teacher for visually impaired students in the state of Colorado, you may need to pass the PLACE Special Education Specialist: Visually Impaired Test. Here is what you need to know:

There are two sections. This exam has two sections: a selected-response, multiple-choice section and a transcription section in which you will transcribe a written passage into Braille.

The multiple-choice section covers four topics. These are:

  1. Knowledge of Human Development, Vision, and Visual Impairments
  2. Assessing Students with Visual Impairments
  3. Fostering Student Growth and Development
  4. Professional Knowledge

Bring your own Brailling equipment. The testing center will provide paper for the performance section of the test, but you will need to bring either a Braille writer or a stylus and slate.
