PLACE Science Test

The PLACE Science Test is a subject test required for all science teacher candidates in Colorado as part of the state licensure process. If you will be taking the PLACE Science Test, here is what you need to know:

All questions are multiple choice. The PLACE Science test questions cover a variety of scientific test objectives through multiple-choice questions. Your score will be based on how many questions you answer correctly, and all test results are given as scaled scores.

The PLACE Science Test has four broad subject areas. These four areas are:

  1. Scientific Inquiry and Connections
  2. Physical Science
  3. Life Science
  4. Earth and Space Science

All of your questions will come from these topics, and because these topics can include quite a bit of material, you should use a detailed test outline to focus your study efforts.

You can use a calculator. When you arrive at the testing center, you will be provided with a specific, preapproved scientific calculator. You will not be allowed to use your own calculator on the PLACE Science Test.
